The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is the second largest college at NC State University, a land grant institution in Raleigh, North Carolina. Agriculture and Life Sciences have been integral parts of North Carolina State University since the doors first opened in 1889. The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences continues that heritage today. CALS teaches students in disciplines related to agriculture and life sciences, creates new knowledge through innovative research, provides solutions for the public with community based extension programs, and develops leaders to guide society – all in an effort to improve the economic, environmental and social well-being of our state and the world. CALS Academic Programs carries out the College’s teaching mission, offering undergraduate and graduate degrees as well as two-year associate degrees through the Agricultural Institute.
Essential Job Duties
This permanent, full-time position involves the academic advising of majors in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). The position will be responsible for teaching up to two sections of a course for first semester undergraduates, providing academic advising for up to 120-150 students, and will participate in the planning and coordinating of student orientation and other summer advising events.
The incumbent of this position is expected to become fully familiar with requirements of undergraduate curricula associated with CALS and related degree programs at NC State, to appropriately advise assigned students about the requirements for those curricula, and to monitor advisees’ progress toward degree.
The incumbent of this position is also expected to design appropriate activities and assessments for a first semester course and to take on responsibilities of co-teaching that class. The position will assist with the development, implementation, and assessment of novel retention programs for the college. The position will also be responsible for conducting various workshops for undergraduate students in collaboration with other members of the academic advising team.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Master’s degree in counseling, education, life sciences, agriculture or related field.
Other Required Qualifications
- Must be capable of working collaboratively with faculty, staff, and especially with other members of the Academic Programs Office.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years experience advising undergraduate life sciences or agriculture majors.
- 2 years experience teaching undergraduate students.
- Experience with social media and print communications.
